We have obviously come a long way in medical science since Hippocrates - the alleged Father of Medicine. But we are still a long way of finding effective treatments to many illnesses. Rather, we seem to be stuck in preventive action, such as diet, exercise and bathing, which he emphasized in his thesis on the Regimen in Acute Diseases and Regimen in Health.
Have you had an idea that you wanted to share with others? A sound or fantastic theory of how we can improve medicine? Are you looking for ways to get responses from others on this idea, and perhaps test it to explore if it might work? If that is the case, open the page "Share Your Ideas" here, and list your idea. Others might respond to give their reaction.
Let your imagination flourish. Think about new ways to heal the human body and soul. Focus on a medical problem and then visualize its solution. First you might want to focus on the need, for example of how to heal cancer, or any other serious illness. Then, you might want to let the solution appear spontaneously in your mind.
Might it be possible? Is it desirable? Leave these questions for the future. At this moment, let's try only to focus on the limits of our own imagination.
New Medical Ideas is a web page that will share our thoughts and our dreams. Perhaps they will be possible to realize one day? If we work hard on it. Because this first step of imagination might actually lead us to start searching for solutions in areas that nobody has looked before. Only if we can imagine it, can we start to make it real! Perhaps some of our dreams will prove to be reality one day? Who would have thought that it is possible to build a machine (CT-scan) that could see through our bodies without opening it up only a few years ago? Who would have thought that we could transplant a heart from one person to another? Many new medical innovations are nothing but revolutionary, and they all were created in someone's mind.
But this web site might also develop into something more; into a web site were we can provide the resources in which imagination are translated into reality, through controlled research, medical trials and finally to the hospitals and clinics all over the world. Some necessary links are provided here to make this possible.
Here is a chance for us to make a difference. Even if we can only play a small part in the conception of the new breakthrough idea, it might still give rise to valuable developments. Even if we are not medical doctors or scientists, we might want to become involved in the exciting process of medical science. Perhaps a mother of a baby who was found dead might think of a way in which this might have been prevented? Perhaps a person with alopecia might have 'silly idea' to put his head in salty water so that the hair would grow again? Perhaps someone observed an apparent 'miraculuos cure' that he or she wanted to explore further?
In fact, I think many people at one time or another have these fantasies of finding a breakthrough medical cure.
Our goals is to find more effective (and hopefully also more painless) treatments for a variety of medical disorders. As soon as we get an exciting idea, we will try to translate the idea into an actual innovation to improve health. The web site will focus on education and research that advances medical innovations. The result will ultimately accelerate the number and quality of new drugs, medical devices and drug–medical device combinations flowing from the investigators bench to the patient’s bedside. Guided by an advisory board of independent experts and staffed by experienced drug development and medical device leaders, the web site is designed to create an unprecedented collaboration of resources and processes to support the following key objectives:
Advance new, novel medical innovations for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of human disease;
Create a culture of multi-disciplinary, multi-organizational collaboration focused on advancing medical innovations from discovery to commercialization; and
Conduct clinical proof of concept trials on new, novel medical innovations.
